Please Contact your child's teacher or the Middle School Main Office for more details.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Outlines for ELA, math, science and social studies for the second marking period (11/28-1/27) were recently sent home with students. Each map/blueprint contains the content, skills, performance indicators and New York State Learning Standards being covered during the second quarter.   In addition, the enclosed outlines will compliment instruction that is given throughout the school day. Within the next few weeks, you will be receiving a sample test for ELA and math, as well as various study guides to help your child better prepare for the second quarterly assessment. If for any reason there are unforeseen changes to the course outline, the teacher will contact you with the details.

Additionally, we will be starting the after school program to support students’ academic progress in their core subjects. You will receive notice of the start date. The program will run Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2:50 p.m. until 4:15 p.m. Grades 5 and 6 will be in the middle school with three core teachers available each day and grades 7-12 will meet in the high school with four core teachers available each day. Busing will be provided.

Thank you for your patience and continued support as we strive to improve academic achievement in the district. It is our goal at Sidney Middle School to keep you and your child informed of what is being practiced and assessed throughout the quarter. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or the main office.

Sincerely,

Robert A. Hansen
Middle School Principal

As the new principal of Sidney Middle School, it is both an honor and a privilege to continue serving as a member of this wonderful school community.  Prior to my current position, I was a Dean of Students for three years in the high school, middle, and elementary schools, where the duties of my position entailed dealing with student disciplinary issues, student accountability measures and or assisting the principal and staff on a day to day basis.  Before I entered administration, I was a social studies teacher in the high school for 10 years where I taught Global 9 and American History.  Prior to entering the field of education, I served in the United States Marine Corps for 4 years.  I currently reside in Sidney and have enjoyed living here for the past 13 years with my wife and two sons.

My goals as building principal are to improve student achievement and to provide a safe and effective learning environment for all students.  The middle school years are the foundation of a student’s future academic success and it is imperative that we provide all the supports necessary to make this happen.  Over the course of the summer, I will be reviewing state test results and academic programs to ensure we are on the right path to improve academic achievement.  In addition, the middle school needs to be a place where students feel safe and are held accountable for their actions in order to allow them to make positive choices both socially and behaviorally.  Parents, teachers, support staff, and administration all have an important role in helping our children succeed in an ever changing world. I look forward to working with all members of the school community and am confident we can make our school an even better place for our students to learn and grow.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 563-2135, ext. 4226.

Thank You,

Robert Hansen
Middle School Principal
